An important new function for NRENs beyond the status quo is demonstrated in a white paper published by WACREN on how NRENs might use the potential of IoT technology to enhance weather monitoring in Africa. The White Paper focuses on partnerships between NRENs and meteorological authorities to enhance weather monitoring. These collaborations provide economical and sustainable solutions to enhance access to meteorological data across the continent by integrating low-cost weather stations based on IoT technologies, notably LoRaWAN.
