The Association of African Universities (AAU) on behalf of WACREN has transferred funds to UbuntunetAlliance as fulfillment of requirements for participation in the first phase of the AfricaConnect Initiative. The African Union – European Union initiative aims to improve research collaborations and access to information by connecting African research centres and linking them to GEANT, the pan-European research and education network. WACREN is expected to participate in the first phase of this project, specifically in capacity building, advocacy and dissemination activities, and has received to this end support from the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA).
