Prof. Nii Quaynor, Chair of the WACREN Board received yet another award, this time for his demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the multistakeholder model at the ICANN53 meeting holding in Buenos Aires. Inductee into the 2013 Internet Hall of Fame and recipient of the Internet Society’s prestigious Jonathan Postel Award in 2007 for his service, dedication, commitment, and leadership in the region, Nii Quaynor is recognised as one of the individuals instrumental in the early design and development of the Internet. He pioneered Internet development and expansion throughout Africa for nearly two decades, establishing some of Africa’s first Internet connections and helping set up key organizations, including the African Network Operators Group. He also was the founding chairman of AfriNIC, the African Internet numbers registry. The Multistakeholder Ethos Award recognizes those ICANN participants who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions and in the importance of ICANN’s multistakeholder model to Internet governance.
