As part of efforts to strengthen and scale Open Access publishing platforms in Africa, WACREN, together with its partners EIFL and AJOL invites all researchers, publishers and editors to partake in two new surveys to understand the status of the publishing platform ecosystem in Africa. The survey is intended to elicit responses that shed light on the challenges encountered by the diamond open access (OA) community in Africa. The survey findings would enhance understanding of the intricacies of diamond OA publishing and assist in planning grant funding calls to bolster African diamond OA initiatives. The first call is scheduled to be issued later this year. These surveys form part of the ongoing ‘Collaboration for Sustainable Open Access Publishing in Africa’ project involving WACREN, EIFL and AJOL. This project, supported by Wellcome, is a collaborative effort to foster a participatory funding approach to enhance the quality and sustainability of African diamond OA publishing endeavours while preserving their diverse nature. If you publish a diamond OA journal in Africa, please fill in this survey. If you are based in Africa and manage an institutional, national, regional, and/or discipline-specific portal/website that hosts/indexes/aggregates African diamond OA journals, please complete this survey. The deadline for submitting responses is February 29, 2024. Your contribution is vital in informing our efforts to support and strengthen the landscape of diamond OA publishing in Africa.
