Overview
The Africa Digital Campus (ADC) is a two-year e-learning project coordinated by WACREN and the IRD and piloted in two Francophone countries - Burkina Faso and Benin.
The ADC is financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) with funds delegated by the European Union within the framework of the Programme entitled - Connectivity and Digital Solutions to Strengthen the Resilience to the Crisis of Education, Health and MSMEs in the Member States of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OEACP).
To give a brief background to this project, at the end of 2020 WACREN and IRD advocated AFD the importance of supporting the development of NRENs in the WCA region. The advocacy was accepted, and the Africa Digital Campus project was integrated into a European programme gathering 12 projects.
A call for applications identified two winners, Agence de Développement Numérique (ADN) and Université Virtuelle Burkina Faso (UV-BF), as the institutions that had formulated the most convincing expressions of interest, particularly in terms of impact (number of students potentially reached) and providing the most guarantees for the success of the project.
The project’s mission is to pool resources and promote knowledge exchange between the various stakeholders. Special attention will be given to the inclusion of women.
Project Objectives
ADC aims to provide access to and affordability of connectivity and digital services are improved to targeted beneficiaries in the education sectors to improve their capacity to face the COVID-19 crisis.
The project also aims to reinforce digital services (e-learning) to foster the continuity and quality of education services.
WACREN's e-learning Plan
WACREN aims to leverage ADC to enhance its e-learning offering to national RENs for onward delivery to their communities. Specifically, ADC will help create a training platform (Moodle), tools for interactive computing (Anaconda, Jupyter notebooks, etc), local capture and streaming - RapidMooc / AC3 Capture boxes, OER Repository / Video on Demand, Data Repository / Shared Storage, eduID.cc - federated identity and eduroam.cc - Wi-Fi authentication
