Context WACREN wishes to organise a retreat for members of its Board of Directors in order to strengthen understanding of the principles of institutional governance, the respective responsibilities of the governing bodies as well as good practices in strategic collaboration between the Board of Directors and the General Management. In this context, WACREN is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of an experienced consultant to prepare and lead this retreat. Mission Objectives The consultant’s main mission will be to support the Board of Directors and the General Management in a structured reflection on the principles of good governance and the functional relationships between the different governance bodies. More specifically, he/she will need to: Facilitating training and discussion sessions on: the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors; the roles and responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer; the separation of powers between the Council and the General Management; accountability and oversight mechanisms; good governance practices in international and non-profit organizations; managing the relationship between strategic governance and operational management; the principles of ethics, transparency and conflict of interest management. Facilitate strategic discussions between participants; To propose recommendations and best practices adapted to the context of WACREN; Produce a final mission report including the main recommendations arising from the retreat. Desired profile The consultant must meet the following criteria: Qualifications and experience Advanced university degree (Master’s minimum) in governance, public administration, law, management, international relations or any other relevant field; Proven experience in the governance of international organizations, academic institutions, non-profit organizations or regional structures; Proven experience in facilitating strategic retreats, governance workshops or training sessions for boards of directors and senior executives; Good understanding of the issues related to the relationship between the Board of Directors and the General Management; Excellent facilitation, communication and institutional mediation skills. Language skills Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written; Ability to effectively facilitate bilingual sessions. Expected Deliverables The consultant will need to provide: A methodological note and a detailed agenda for the retreat; Presentation materials and educational documents; Facilitating the retreat sessions; A final report including the main findings and recommendations. Duration and location of the mission The retreat will take place over two and a half days, on a date and at a location to be communicated later by WACREN.
