The workshop on Responsible Research Governance (RRG) asks what it means to govern research responsibly within African institutions, beyond how research is made open or how it is assessed. Governance sets the structure and rules under which research happens, including how it is assessed. LIBSENSE’s recent work on Responsible Research Assessment showed that assessment reform depends on institutional governance that supports fair evaluation cultures. RRG extends this thinking to the institutional, ethical and infrastructural conditions under which research is conceived, conducted and shared. Four areas will open the webinar discussion: research data governance, research ethics and care, the responsible use of generative AI, and institutional research practice. Participants will test these areas and decide whether they should be reshaped, extended or reconsidered. The workshop also marks an early engagement with the research administrator community, whose role is central to how responsible research practice takes hold in institutions. Registration closes on 30 October 2026. To read more about the workshop, including its objectives and who should attend, and to register, visit https://indico.wacren.net/event/284/.
