Through their advocacy for open science culture and policies in academic institutions, the LIBSENSE Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are gaining attention from a recognised international publication: Katrina. The article describes the crucial role LIBSENSE has played in advancing open science in Africa and then focuses on the important activities and efforts of the ECRs in Ghana and Nigeria. Their activities, which span advocacy and capacity-building around research data management (RDM) and ethics, open access publishing, and research assessment reform, are steadily changing the culture and approaches of academic institutions to open science.
