The Ghanaian Academic and Research Network (GARNET) will hold its 7th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kumasi, convening stakeholders from across Ghana’s research and education ecosystem for a week of technical engagement and strategic reflection on the future of national digital infrastructure. This year’s AGM is anchored on the theme “From Connectivity to Digital Sovereignty: Strengthening Ghana’s Research and Education Ecosystem.” The theme underscores a deliberate shift beyond basic connectivity toward building resilient, secure, and self-reliant digital systems that empower research, teaching, and innovation across the country’s universities and research institutions. The programme will be preceded by a four-day technical workshop on Network Monitoring and Management, designed to strengthen the operational capacity of network engineers and ICT professionals within member institutions. The workshop reflects GARNET’s continued commitment not only to expanding infrastructure but also to ensuring the skills and systems required to sustain and optimise it. A key highlight of the AGM will be a keynote address by Prof. G. Ayorkor Korsah, Head of the Department of Computer Science at Ashesi University. Her participation is expected to bring valuable academic and industry-aligned perspectives to discussions on digital transformation, capacity building, and the role of higher education in shaping Ghana’s digital future. As Ghana continues to strengthen its national research and education networking landscape, the AGM also provides an opportunity for deeper alignment with regional efforts led by the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN), particularly in advancing interoperable infrastructure, shared services, and collaborative innovation across West and Central Africa.
