‘Adopt AI tools to enhance learning’ - Former WACREN Chair

The Former Board chair of WACREN, Prof. Nii Narku Quaynor, has urged all stakeholders in the education environment to take advantage of the proliferation of Artificial intelligence (AI) resources to enhance the delivery of quality research and education.

Speaking on the topic: “The Future of Tertiary Education in Ghana with Open Artificial Intelligence (AI)” at the GARNET 2023 Conference, Prof. Quaynor said Higher Education Institutions across Africa need to adopt and optimise AI to make research, teaching and learning easy.

He cautioned adopters of AI to contextualise implementing these modern tools based on local dynamics and nuances.

“AI tools are programmed, so they have limitations; they don’t work perfectly in every instance or case. We need to adapt to fit specific local nuances”, Prof. Quaynor mentioned

The use of AI in education is still in its early stages, but it has the potential to revolutionise how education is delivered. As AI technology develops, we can expect to see even more innovative and effective ways to use AI in the classroom. About 68% of African universities are believed to have AI labs or centres, and many universities now offer AI courses.
