On May 11, 2023, in Abidjan, West African Ministers of Higher Education convened for a high-level workshop on enhancing distance education throughout the region. Representatives from seven West African countries, including five ministers, agreed to establish a collaborative network for e-learning. The primary goal is to expedite the digital transformation of education in West Africa, ensuring equitable access to higher education for all citizens in the region. This commitment arose from the “Strengthening Regional Cooperation in Distance Education in West Africa” workshop on May 10 and 11, 2023. The AUF organized the workshop within the framework of the DIRECCT program and the AU-EU D4D Hub project. Key attendees included Mr Adama DIAWARA, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d’Ivoire, and counterparts from Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo. Representatives from Mali and Senegal were also present. The event facilitated collaboration between sub-regional and academic institutions, private and international partners, and education specialists to promote cooperation in distance education.
