Terms of Reference for Community Manager – WACREN Position: Community Manager, Location: Remote/Accra, Ghana Application Deadline: 11 October 2024 Background: WACREN, in partnership with the European Commission through the AfricaConnect3 project, is dedicated to enhancing research, education, and innovation across Africa by establishing National Research and Education Networks (NRENs). As part of these efforts, WACREN spearheads the LIBSENSE initiative, a continent-wide program promoting open science tailored to the African context. Further expanding on these objectives, WACREN has teamed up with EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) and AJOL (African Journals Online) for a three-year project, supported by Wellcome, aimed at bolstering the quality and sustainability of diamond open access (OA) publishing across Africa. Diamond OA is a scholarly publishing model that charges no fees to authors or readers, and its adoption is increasing in Africa as part of broader efforts to align with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science. Roles and Responsibilities: Community Engagement and Nurturing: Engage and nurture the community of researchers, educators, and stakeholders involved in the AfricaConnect and LIBSENSE initiatives. Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies to promote open science practices and enhance community participation. Event Organisation: Organise webinars, workshops, and community events to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration. Feedback Collection: Gather and analyse feedback from the community to inform ongoing project development and improvement. Communication Management: Create and manage communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and forums, to keep the community informed and engaged. Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to align community activities with project goals and objectives. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Social Sciences, Education). Proven experience in community management, outreach, or engagement, preferably in research or educational contexts. Strong understanding of open science principles and practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Experience organising events and managing online communities. Proficiency in social media and digital communication tools.
