National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) within the WACREN community will showcase how they are supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) at a workshop in Gaborone, Botswana. The workshop, organised by the AfricaConnect3 project, is aimed at distilling the direct and indirect contributions of the African NRENs to making the ‘Global Goals’ a reality by 2030. Within the WACREN community, NRENs, through their offerings to their communities, have been directly contributing to some of the goals’ achievements, including #4 – Quality Education, #5 – Gender Inequality and #17 – Partnerships for the Goals while having multiplier effects on other goals. At the workshop, which is co-located with the UbuntuNet-Connect 2022, the annual conference of the regional research network in South and East Africa, the WACREN community will share concrete instances of its contribution to “making the world a better place” through the alignment of its project outcomes, activities and programmes to the UN SDGs.
