Stéphanie of EC says goodbye to AfricaConnect

The EC official managing the AfricaConnect3 project – Stéphanie Truillé-Baurens has said goodbye to the project after six years of dedicated service. 

In a virtual farewell event, the African Regional Research and Education Networks (RRENs) CEOs took turns to express gratitude to the outgoing International Cooperation Officer at the DG INTPA.

Dr. Boubakar Barry, CEO of WACREN, recalled the unwavering commitment of Stéphanie to the AfricaConnect project, especially during preparations leading up to the signing of the third iteration of the project.

“I was very impressed by how you left no stone unturned to make sure the project was signed into action. The numerous exchanges through emails and other channels showed how you sincerely desired to see digital transformation in Africa’s higher education and research community. Thank you for that.”

Dr Matthews Mtumbuka, CEO for Ubuntunet Alliance (UA), commended Stéphanie for her professional approach to work and high-level commitment and dedication to her duties.

Taking his turn, Yousef Torman, a Co-MD for ASREN, commended Stéphanie for her demonstrated belief and commitment to transforming Africa digitally. He recalled her professional attitude and openness of mind for discussions on various aspects of the AfricaConnect project.

While wishing her well in her next professional chapter, Salem Al-Agtash praised Stéphanie for her cooperative attitude and spirit of camaraderie. 

Erik Huizer, CEO of GÉANT, remembered her passion for her work and her drive for excellence. He requested that she carry the same attitude to her next job. 

In her farewell remarks, the outgone European Commission (EC) official commended the African regional RENs for their cooperation throughout her work life on the project. She reminisced about the memorable work times with the regional RENs. She hoped to continue to work with RENs in the future.

Having served the project for about six years, Stéphanie left DG INTPA to open a new chapter in her professional life.
