WACREN appoints its Chief Technology Officer

WACREN today announced the appointment of Omo Oaiya to the role of Chief Technology Officer for the association. In his new role, Mr Oaiya will be responsible for WACREN technical assets, counselling and supporting members on technical issues and supervising WACREN capacity building activities.

Mr. Oaiya was in the Task Team set up by the Association of African Universities (AAU) that led to the incorporation of WACREN and has been acting since 2009 as the Chair of the WACREN Technical Committee on Infrastructure.

Mr. Oaiya also supervises the developer team of EduERP, open source student and staff administration software for higher education and has a long history of academic networking and computing especially in Nigeria .  

He actively supports the effective use of learning technologies and leads the IT development group in the Peoples Open Access Initiative (Peoples-uni),  a UK based effort providing postgraduate public health education via Internet based e-learning.   

He serves on the board of Eko-Konnect Research and Education Initiative, a cluster of NgREN and is graduate of the University of Benin in Nigeria.

Fundraising for WACREN

As a very young organization, WACREN has to secure funding for its Secretariat and first activities.  

The WACREN community and WACREN friends can contribute in many ways, including timely payment of membership fees (multi-year payments are welcome) and donations.

WACREN has a new membership structure

In order to allow participation of a larger panel of organizations interested in research and education networking and the development of research and education in Africa, WACREN has reviewed its membership structure.

Education and research institutions, non-governmental organizations, for-profit entities as well as individuals can now be members of WACREN.

WACREN held its first Annual Conference and second AGM in Lomé, Togo

WACREN has successfully held its first Annual Conference and second Annual General Meeting on 13 – 14 March 2014 in Lomé, Togo. They were preceded by a meeting of the Board of Directors of WACREN on 12 March 2014.
