AfricaCERT, the African forum of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs), will facilitate a 1-day workshop to promote establishment of Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) in National Research and Education Networks (NRENs).

The workshop is organised with WACREN in a program of the Africa Training Initiative (ATI) to establish the frameworks and build capacity to secure African NRENs.

The event takes place on Saturday October 15 2016 and is co-located with the 3rd WACREN regional workshop – Building resilient DNS Infrastructure and Introduction to DNSSEC

Targeted at personnel and teams responsible for security in their campus networks and NRENs the objectives include

  • Better understanding of Internet threats and the need for an effective way to balance academic research and educational missions with the need for computer security.
  • Answers to questions about network situational awareness and incident handling in campus networks and the relationship with NREN and national CSIRTs 
  • Design and implementation plans for campus and NREN security teams
  • Connections among Research and Education network security communities towards establishment of a secure communication platform
